The project implementation is calculated within the framework of the sustainable development program of the enterprise until 2030.
Pobuzhsky Ferronickel Plant LLC (Kirovohrad Region) intends to invest UAH16.3 million for the reconstruction of the wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 4200 cubic meters per day (wastewater of the plant and the town of Pobuzhskoye). This is stated in the report of the plant, placed in the Unified Register of Environmental Impact Assessment under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. Project implementation period – 2022-2030.
“Since 2011 the plant has been working on a recycling system and for production needs uses not only rainwater into the water management system, but also purified wastewater, which excludes discharges in the Southern Bug River,” PFP Director General Denys Shevchenko told the reporters. “Thanks to the measures for the reconstruction of this system, we plan to improve both the quality of wastewater treatment and the working conditions of employees”.
Reconstruction involves the construction of buildings and structures, the installation of efficient, modern, high-quality equipment. The purpose of reconstruction is to improve the operation of existing treatment facilities by reducing energy consumption, reducing manual labor during operation, reducing the amount of waste. In addition, it is planned to carry out repair and restoration works of existing structures.
To improve the quality of wastewater, repair works are planned and the replacement of outdated equipment of mechanical and biologic treatment plants, a wastewater treatment unit and a mechanical dehydration plant are planned. For this purpose, the chlorination system with gaseous chlorine will be replaced by sodium hypochlorite. Sodium hypochlorite will provide an appropriate degree of neutralizing at lower risks for staff and lower costs than gaseous chlorine.
The Head of the PFP also reminded that the reconstruction of treatment facilities is not the only one among the large-scale environmental measures of the plant. Thus, since 2017, the company has been implementing a unique project for the reconstruction of the third stage of gas cleaning equipment on tubular rotating furnaces No. 1 and No. 2. Investments in the project in 2018-2020 exceeded UAH 80 million. The volume of planned investments in 2021-2025 will be more than UAH300 million. As a result of the project implementation the level of purification of emissions into the atmosphere will be brought to 99.9% – the level of European standards.
The plant also implements a program for the efficient use of production waste and performs works on the reclamation of spent land. Thus, with the use of ferronickel slag production, the reclamation of the depleted pit “Central ” is carried out according to a specially developed project, as well as slag, after additional processing, can be used as building materials for road arrangement and in other industries.
